Change Personal Twitter Account To Business Account

Beginning life as a micro-blogging platform, Twitter has evolved into a platform with over 16 million users in the UK.

Twitter is best used for snappy, quick and to the point content. Tweets have a much shorter lifespan so it's the place for industry news and latest updates. The 280-character limit means shorter and more precise tweets are what work best for shareable content.

Setting up a Twitter account for a business can differ from setting up personal accounts. But don't worry, we will take you through the step-by-step process of setting up an account for your business. Don't panic if you have never set up an account before, whether for business or personal use, by the end of this guide you will feel confident enough to set up and start tweeting.

We've also included visual aids and links to direct you to the appropriate pages to make the whole setting up process that little bit easier.

Step 1: Sign Up to Twitter

Go to twitter.com and click "Sign Up". Add in the name of your business, phone number or email address, and date of birth (don't worry, this information isn't made public on your profile.)

Twitter will then give you the option to customise your experience with personalised ads. Allowing personalised ads can be convenient to see what other businesses in your industry are doing for their ads.

Click "Next"and update your information if you need to. The click "Sign Up" and Twitter will ask you to verify your phone or email.

Once you've verified your account, you will need to create a password that is at least 6 characters long.

You will then need to choose a profile picture; your company logo is a perfect option. You then have 160 characters to add your company description in your profile bio.

Add your company's interests to help generate your feed with relevant topics. Make sure to choose topics that are relevant to your business that you can retweet and that will help in building up your following.

Based on your interests, Twitter will show you a few profiles that you can follow. Select the ones that you feel will provide good content for your business account to share and follow.

Click "Allow notifications" to be notified of new followers, retweets, likes, news updates and direct messages.

You are now officially signed up to Twitter! Now we just need to set up the rest of your account.

Step 2: Update your Twitter business profile

Now's the time to add a cover photo and your company website URL to your Twitter profile.

You can do this by clicking on the "Edit profile" button.

This allows you to update your profile and add a cover photo. You can also change your name, update your bio and add your business locations. Once you are done editing, click the "save" button to ensure all the changes are saved on your Twitter page.

Step 3: Start tweeting!

Now that you have set up your Twitter Business account, and edited all the related information, you can start tweeting!

Select "Tweet now" on your profile to get started!

Twitter gives you 280 characters to write your tweet. You can add one or two relevant hashtags to expand your reach and encourage followers to join the conversation.

Once you are happy with the tweet you have created, click the send button and your tweet will appear on your followers' timeline as fresh content.
